Is the World Going to Hell in a Handbasket?

supreme courtMany Bibles were clutched Wednesday night following the conservative Supreme Court vote 5-4 wiping out a part of DOMA, Defense of Marriage Act putting legally married gay couples on equal federal footing with heterosexual married couples in regards to taxes, health benefits and personal rights. Obama has not had the opportunity to change the balance of the court, but Justice Kennedy sided with the four liberal Justices in this landmark ruling.

This must be terribly frightening to those who believe the homosexual lifestyle is chosen. This is Revelation material! I think not. I had a conversation with a friend of mine around ten years ago that altered this ignorant redneck’s perspective vastly. OOPS, I used the R word, but I suppose OK since referencing myself? I have known my friend since we were twelve. I trust him with my life and literally put my life in his hands for a week several years ago.

As you likely have surmised my friend is gay. That makes me wonder if those who are homophobic or believe homosexuality is a choice, know someone that is attracted to the same sex? In the conversation I asked, “When did you know?” He replied that he was attracted to men since he was nine. The poor guy attempted dating one girl. I was quite naïve way back when, I did not know why but the relationship seemed uncomfortable, forced.

I cannot fathom if Carey did not have spousal privileges and decision making powers the multiple times I have been hospitalized and out of it. I could write pages of scenarios this ruling corrected. Back to you pro choicers, if homosexuality is a choice you should be able to easily have sexual relations with a partner of the same sex? Right? Do not declare every gay individual a sexual deviant, that is an ignorant cop out.

Chic-fil-ADan Cathy, president of Chic-fil-A, stepped in it again, but quickly removed the tweet, “Sad day for our nation; founding fathers would be ashamed of our gen. to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies.” Let me ponder on this a minute, he is concerned about shame from the founding fathers, because the court has given American citizens equal rights, the same founding fathers that allowed the south to be developed on the backs of slaves? I have eaten my last Chic-fil-A.

A perspective to consider, Love is all you need?

The immortal Rodney King said it best, “Can we, can we all get along?” Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend! dj

    For me, the issue at hand is choice, but not choice regarding sexual preference or even sexual behavior. In my view, THE choice in life is (to borrow a phrase) whom one will follow. If we choose to follow our own impulses (in any area of life), that will yield a particular set of consequences. If we dare to follow Christ by:

    1. Choosing to believe he exists;
    2. Choosing to believe he created humanity;
    3. Choosing to believe he knows best and loves most;
    4. Choosing to obey him rather than our own desires . . .,

    that will yield a different set of consequences. I don’t doubt for a minute that the desires of many homosexual persons are innate and not a matter of choice. However, the decision to act upon those desires is a choice. This holds true for everyone regardless of the issue at hand. I’ve decided I’m not wise enough to make all the right choices, but I believe I have met the one who is, even when I don’t like his direction or plan. So far, so good.

    For what it’s worth . . .

    Peace!

    I believe homosexuality is a choice, gays are not born gay. There are thousands of ex-gays who came out of that lifestyle. However, as MLK Jr once said on this subject, “Gays are not born gay, however, Blacks are born black and I have never seen an ex-black..

    It seems bizarre to me that others are framing it as a choice about whether or not fo follow their own religious beliefs. I didn’t think this country was a theocracy.

    Whatever. Dad, thank you for writing this. I agree!!!
